The first time Fiona Havlish met Thomas E. Mellon Jr., the Doylestown attorney pulled over a rocking chair and invited her to sit in it.
“I thought, well, this is the oddest law firm,” Havlish recalled. “But then Tom looked at me and said, ‘Tell me your story.’ And I did. And he made me feel so welcome, and so cared for.”
Mellon, who passed away Monday following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, took Havlish’s case, winning a $6 billion judgment for her and 58 other people who lost family members in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in Manhattan.
