Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Mick Mulvaney, slammed CNN’s Jim Acosta over the “Schumer shutdown” during today’s White House press briefing.
Mulvaney started the briefing by referring to the impending shutdown as the “Schumer shutdown” due to top Democrat Chuck Schumer’s refusal to work with Republicans.
Acosta asked why Mulvaney attacked Schumer when Republicans control the White House, the House and the Senate.
Mulvaney struck back, saying, “You know as well as anybody that it takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass an appropriations bill.”
“Yes,” replied Acosta.
“Ok, so if you only have 51 votes in the Senate, then you have to have Democrat support in order to fund the government,” Mulvaney added.
In an attempt to avoid a shutdown, President Trump reportedly phoned Schumer and invited him to the White House to reach a deal.
If there is no compromise on a budget by midnight Friday, the shutdown will be finalized.
