The Church of Satan has disavowed the efforts of self-described Satanist abortion activists in Jefferson City, Missouri to overturn “informed consent” laws on abortion.
The Satanic Church responded to an Infowars article written Tuesday titled, “Satanists Sue To Stop Pro-Life Law” covering the actions of the Satanic Temple in Jefferson City filing a lawsuit against the state of Missouri over “informed consent” laws which provide the woman with information about abortion.
“Nothing to do with us or Satanism. Those are atheist activists,” the religious organization tweeted on Wednesday.

The Church of Satan’s tweet included an attached statement:
“An ongoing case in Missouri has received publicity wherein activists masquerading as Satanists are involved in a lawsuit regarding currently mandated pre-abortion procedures.”
“A little bit of research makes it clear that The Satanic Temple is self-acknowledged satire and an activist group, which pretends to be a religion when it suits their ends. They do not reflect the philosophy of Satanism which our organization has outlined in great detail over five decades, though at times they clearly lift ideas from our extensive literature.”
“The Church of Satan does not condone political activists appropriating the name of our 50 year old religion in support of their activism, whether we agree with their stated goals or not.”
The Satanic Temple of Jefferson City is an activist group that uses literature and imagery derived from the Satanic Church to promote social justice and egalitarianism.
But the statement they’re “atheist activists” is disingenuous given they use Satanic literature and imagery and apply certain Satanic doctrines to their activities.
Additionally, the Church of Satan’s own high priest Peter H. Gilmore describes members of the Church to be “skeptical-atheists,” so it appears the Satanic Temple is no more atheist than the Church of Satan itself.
What does it say about abortion when the Church of Satan distances itself from the abortion activism taking place by the Satanic Temple in Missouri?
