A poll posted on Infowars.com reveals that 70% of respondents believe the United States will attack Iran in response to the country developing a nuclear program. 30% said this is not likely.

Following a United Nations IAEA report released earlier this week accusing Iran of working on nuclear weapons, calls for a strike on the Islamic state intensified.

The New York Times – infamous for its deluge of pro-war propaganda prior to the invasion of Iraq – has characterized the latest IAEA report as “chillingly comprehensive.” The newspaper, however, stopped short of calling for an attack. The Times had previously fulfilled its role as a propaganda conduit for the Pentagon and intelligence agencies in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq by publishing lies about Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction.

The latest IAEA report consists of a “secret annex” suppressed under the agency’s former director, Mohamed ElBaradei. He refused to publish the information because it did not pass the level of scrutiny required to ascertain that it was genuine, notes Gareth Porter. According to Porter, the information was suspect because most of it was submitted by the Israelis. It is the Israelis and Mossad, Porter contends, who “are the ones who had the motive and the opportunity” to create fallacious information now offered as fact by the IAEA.

Despite the reluctance of the establishment media to call for an attack by the United States, it now appears likely that Israel will go it alone and attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. As we noted on Tuesday, the United States and NATO have backed away from becoming involved in a conflict that would spark economic and geopolitical turmoil.

Tensions between the United States, NATO and Israel have not prevented opportunistic saber-rattling by U.S. politicians. Appearing in the Wall Street Journal today, establishment Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney said that if he was in the Oval Office he would “prepare for war” with the Islamic republic. “‘Si vis pacem, para bellum.’ That is a Latin phrase, but the ayatollahs will have no trouble understanding its meaning from a Romney administration: If you want peace, prepare for war,” he said.

“The clear evidence of Iran’s mounting nuclear capability, coupled with Iran’s stated desire to destroy Israel, is staring us in the face. Now is the time to acknowledge, address, and eliminate the threat,” declared Republican Rick Santorum.

“To protect the vital US interests at stake, a responsible commander in chief must be prepared in a worst-case scenario to use military force to destroy key Iranian nuclear sites,” said Texas governor and presidential hopeful Rick Perry.

Republican John McCain offered a number of unsubstantiated accusations to make the case that Israel should attack.

“And the American people need to know more about what the Iranians have done: IEDs have killed Americans, supporting terrorists’ organizations, nuclear weapons, playing in other countries in the region — they declared our withdrawal from Iraq is a great victory,” McCain told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday. “They are making trouble not only in that part of the world, but as you know, there was a plot . . . to assassinate the Saudi ambassador right here in Washington, D.C. They are great threat. And the American people need to be told how dangerous this threat is and the fact that the Israelis may feel — and I emphasize may feel — compelled to neutralize this threat to their existence.”

The “liberal” press in Israel is calling for Obama to force PM Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to back down before it is too late. Haaretz proposed that the United States should take out Iran on its own if it is worried about its suspected nuclear capability mentioned by Romney, Perry, Santorum, McCain and others.

Despite the political posturing and calls for moderation in the establishment media, it now appears an attack on Iran will come next month. A British Foreign Office official quoted by the Daily Mail newspaper states that an attack will happen in December.

“We’re expecting something as early as Christmas, or very early in the new year,” the source is quoted as saying, adding that the Israelis will attack Iran’s nuclear sites “sooner rather than later.”

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said today that Iran will respond forcefully if attacked. “The enemies, especially the United States and its puppets and the Zionist regime, should be aware that the Iranian nation will not invade any country or nation, but it will respond to any invasion or threat with full strength in a way that it will break up invaders from within.” Khamenei added that the Iranians are “not a kind of nation that just stand idly by and look at threats of the fake materialistic powers which are worm eaten.”

It is assumed that Iran will activate Hamas and Hezbollah to attack Israel with rockets and will encourage Shia militias in southern Iraq to attack U.S. troops. Experts also warn that Iran will use an array of modern weaponry to close down the Strait of Hormuz – where one-third of the world’s oil passes – and deal a catastrophic blow to the world economy.
