According to available sources, Julian Assange was born in Townsville, Queensland, Australia to Christine, an unmarried, single woman. When Assange was a year old, his mother married Brett Assange, giving him his last name. The couple split up, and Christine Assange next married a musician and devotee of Anne Hamilton-Byrne when Julian was 8 years old.
In the Fox news piece Anne Hamilton-Byrne is characterized as a cult leader, stridently black washed by one of her children, Sarah Moore, in her book Unseen, Unheard, Unknown. Sarah, like many kids, apparently has bad memories and serious reflective objections to her upbringing by Anne and the not so atypical kibbutz type living environment of the children of the flower power generation. Indeed it was very strange. It seems that Anne Hamilton-Byrne practiced Siddha Yoga-which to most new agers is a well-known and respected Yogic path brought to the west by Guru Muktananda, still operating under the guidance of the beautiful and enlightened Guru Mai, a far cry from an anti-Christian cult as FOX might have you think.
Reports such as published on FOX news have characterized Anne as a cultist nut case given to the use of drugs such as LSD and other strange means of conduct. Sarah Moore’s (Hamilton-Byrne) book lends credibility to this particular viewpoint. http://www.leavingsiddhayoga.net/unseen.htm
On the other hand, from the viewpoint of a new agers and activists like myself, Sarah’s mother, it may be argued that Anne was a new ager of the 60s generation with a spiritual bent and a proclivity for being paranoid about the US government-called Conspiracy Theorists, today. Gee! It sounds like so many of my activist friends and colleagues in our network. It seem to me, as I fly by the seat of my pants on this topic of Assange’s early influence, that Anne resonated as one of us…a gal produced by the era of our ‘ 60s flower power times, smoking a little weed, experimenting with some mind expanding drugs and then jumping over to the spiritual path. It seems, ahead of her time, that Anne was very serious about preparing for the end times, and had but so early gleaned of the big brother fascist government takeover of our free peoples.
She certainly was passionate and avid about her position. She dyed the kids hair to all be blonde and rather look alike…her way to hide them in a sort of uniform anonymity. Each child, according to Moore, had several passports (which, by the way, is recommended today by international financial leaders such as Simon Black). They lived, as best as Anne could muster, in self imposed seclusion, nearly off the grid, keeping the kids away from TV and the “material world”; organized in an efficient manner, intrinsic to coherent group living , such as kids washing their own sheets, and following a precise schedule. But to Sarah Moore this was apparently inconvenient and obsessive- as obsessive as those of us today who are building off the grid; storing food; blogging about the direction of our government turning against its birthright as a Republic; not vaccinating our children; homeschooling; keeping them away from doctors, becoming ex-patriots; applying for dual citizenship passports; renouncing social security numbers, recoiling from National IDs, RFID chips, electronic surveillance, exploitive foreign colonialism, etc, etc. etc.
With very selective memory of an unhappy teen she portrays her mother as the evil cultist. On the other hand, my kids have selective memory too. My son still can’t get over the event at which I threw away his humpty dumpty hat…and he is now 35. It is also true that during my divorce, not unlike the portrayal of Anne, I stabbed my desk relentless with a large kitchen knife in front of my children in a helpless demonstration of how powerless I was feeling as I pleaded…to the kids…don’t push me any further over the edge. Such scenes seems similar to the account by Sarah Moore of her mother in the midst of what is reported to be at times-14 children. Yow wee-speak about opportunities for out of control moments of stress and how young children can view it.
Yes, I, myself an activist (see why I am an activist), and apparent obsessive founder of the student Vaccine Liberation Army have been practicing transcendental meditation for 35 years. I, personally, hold respect for the likes of Guru Muktananda-the very guru who appears to be Anne Hamilton-Byrne’s preceptor and through this connection had influenced Assange’s stepfather and mother and in turn had an impact on Assange’s world view. And rather than accept a FOX news spin that Julian Assange was brought up by a follower of a cult, in my opinion, it can be argued that his mother’s early proclivity to marry someone attracted to Guru Muktananda and Sidha Yoga, instead of being a foundation to spread doubt about Assanges intentions, inures to his benefit. It can be argued, instead, that this early connection simply attests to the priming of an authentic revolutionary; of a mindset oriented towards freedom and sovereignty, not a CIA operative.

The marriage of Julian’s mother to a man that would influence Julian for a short time because of his devotion to Sidha Yoga is significant. It is significant enough to lean us to the support side of the Julian Assange/Wikileaks equation. Here is a spin on Assange’s early childhood that Assange’s enemies would use to discredit him as if he were a psyche nut brought up compartmentalized by a notorious secret evil Anti Christian cult. But instead we may as well view it as a connection to the highly respected Eastern Guru Muktananda.
