For the past several weeks, the media has been buzzing with talk of impending crises and possible domestic unrest.

On September 30th the Army Times announced the deployment of the 3rd Infantry’s 1st Brigade for domestic operations inside the United States. The Times reports that, "They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control…"

CNN’s Lou Dobbs has raised the alarm over the Brigade’s deployment.

Adding to the tension, Senator Joe Biden has stated that he believes that Barack Obama will be tested by an international crisis in the early days of his tenure if elected. "Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking," said Biden.

Now, a high level Pentagon advisory panel is warning of a "likely first-270-day crisis" to face the new President of the United States. The Insider, a Department of Defense publication, reports that,

"The next president is likely to face a major international crisis within his first nine months in office, according to a senior group of business advisers to the defense secretary.

Accordingly, the Defense Business Board says the new administration should set a goal to win Senate confirmation of key Pentagon posts in the first 30 days of the inauguration, in order to have a full team in place to deal with such a contingency."

What kind of crisis is the United States government expecting? A worsening of the worldwide financial crisis? Civil unrest during the presidential election? A new terror attack? A resulting activation of secret Continuity of Government plans?

On the economic front, Senator Christopher Dodd has warned that the situation could worsen if, "…it turns out that they [banks] are hoarding, you’ll have a revolution on your hands. People will be so livid and furious that their tax money is going to line their pockets instead of doing the right thing. There will be hell to pay.”

Regardless of what kind of crises we will face, the United States is facing very uncertain times.
