Tehran – Iran on Monday jailed the editor of a website after it published an unprecedented personal attack on revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s grandson, the Fars news agency reported.

Hassan Nobakhtian, the managing editor of the Nosazi (Reconstruction) website, was taken to Tehran’s Evin prison in line with a verdict issued by Tehran’s chief prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi after a court hearing.

The Nosazi website provoked uproar for its attack on Hassan Khomeini after the cleric made a rare public intervention to criticise the disqualification of reformist candidates in elections and military influence in politics.

In a piece entitled “The secrets about the rosy cheeks of Seyyed Hassan Khomeini” it made allegations about him owning a BMW, having a personal steam sauna and living in affluent north Tehran.
