A Texas man, Cody Clapper, uploaded a video of his seven-year-old daughter shooting her first deer onto his Facebook page and received more feedback than expected.
The Facebook post got over 2 million views and was picked up by a local Fox affiliate in Dallas who received 6.8 million views on their re-post of the video.
Footage like this is important to share in a climate where so many people are misinformed about gun culture, such as the NY Daily News writer who described shooting an AR-15 as a nightmarish experience.
The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don’t know what you’re doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.
Clapper told those who disagree with his parenting, “If you think that you might be offended by this video that has my daughter shooting a deer with a modern hunting rifle, please keep scrolling.”
