Update: The media has named the suspect as 25-year-old Alek Minassian, a surname with a Turkish, Iranian or Armenian origin.

Video of the Toronto truck attack reveals the voice of the suspect which sounds a lot like a Middle Eastern accent:

“I have a gun in my pocket. … Shoot me in the head,” says the suspect with an accent.

Neither Toronto police nor the media have revealed details on the suspect, yet the suspect’s accent and his method of murder – mowing down pedestrians in a fast-moving vehicle – suggest another ISIS-inspired truck attack, of which there have been several in Europe and the US over the past several years.

ISIS has specifically instructed its followers to turn large vehicles into mass casualty weapons, resulting in horrific attacks on civilians in cities like London, Berlin, Nice and Stockholm.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect drove his Ryder van at speeds over 35mph down the sidewalk and appeared to be aiming at people.

So far, at least nine people have been reported dead.
