The US government shutdown blame game is a “sham” designed to force spending cuts, says Carla Howell, political director with the US National Libertarian Party.
“First of all, there is no ‘government shutdown’. It’s a ‘government slowdown’”, Howell said in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.
“Both Democrats and Republicans, and especially President Obama, are choosing to focus on blaming each other rather than getting serious about cutting government spending – which they deliberately ignore. The whole conversation is a sham,” she added
Howell said polls show that the American people are “seeing through this game and disapproving of both parties, as they should”.
An Associated Press-Gfk survey on Wednesday showed Americans’ approval rating for Congress has dropped to a record low 5 percent.
Howell also urged the need for “responsible, well-prioritized government spending cuts”.
She said the American people need the “massive waste in government” to be “exposed and eliminated.” Howell said the government waste is believed to constitute “at least 30% of total spending”.
If government spending is cut by 30% or more, it “would immediately balance the budget, stop the reckless growth of government debt, and transfer wealth out of government coffers and into the productive private sector,” Howell explained.
