President Trump predicts he’ll secure a second term not only because the country needs him, but because the media needs him as well.

In an exclusive interview with The New York Times Thursday, the president underscored that news outlets had grown dependent on him for ratings and reasoned they’ll eventually cover him in a favorable light to keep readers.

“Another reason that I’m going to win another four years is because newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there because without me, their ratings are going down the tubes,” Trump said to a New York Times reporter at Trump International Golf Resort in West Palm Beach, Fla.

“Without me, The New York Times will indeed be not the failing New York Times, but the failed New York Times,” President Trump quipped.

“So they basically have to let me win. And eventually, probably six months before the election, they’ll be loving me because they’re saying, ‘Please, please, don’t lose Donald Trump.’ O.K.”

Positive Trump coverage would be a vast change for the mainstream media, whom the president has constantly grappled with over their extremely biased and negative coverage.

A recent study by the Pew Research Center, for instance, found that only five percent of media coverage during Trump’s first 60 days was positive, compared to Obama’s coverage which was 42 percent positive.

Trump began targeting The Gray Lady with the “failing” label during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. He correctly believed the paper carried nothing but negative coverage of his campaign and reciprocated attacks via social media.

But the New York Times isn’t the only entity Trump has deemed a failure. Others Trump has described as “failing”: Vanity Fair, Glenn Beck, Politico, The Wall Street Journal, The Blaze, Forbes, The Weekly Standard, The National Review, The New York Daily News, New York Magazine, Washington Examiner, The Huffington Post, New Hampshire Union Leader, USA Today, TV program The View, Rosie O’Donnell and two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton.
