Donald Trump has fired embattled campaign staffer Corey Lewandowski, who’s role had already been reduced as Infowars previously reported.

Lewandowski was criticized for several missteps, including the Trump campaign’s slow start to secure party delegates on the ground at state and local conventions, a strategy at which former candidate Ted Cruz excelled.

“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” staffer Hope Hicks said in a statement Monday. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”

In early April, Trump was reportedly angry at how campaign operatives led by Lewandowski were slow to protect his delegates from Cruz.

Lewandowski also apparently burnt bridges with many of the reporters covering Trump’s campaign as well as Republican National Committee insiders, but what may have triggered his departure was conflict with Trump’s chief strategist Paul Manafort.

As Infowars reported, Trump hired Manafort in March to take over many of the duties previously handled by Lewandowski, with Manafort reporting directly to Trump, not Lewandowski.

“Sources indicate a repeated plea from Manafort was that Corey Lewandowski’s role be quickly and quietly diminished because the entirety of the campaign was teetering on total collapse beneath the onslaught of a GOP Machine far more experienced in foisting its candidate of choice regardless of the actual will of Republican voters,” D.C. Whispers also reported. “‘You’re winning the votes but losing the nomination,’ [Trump was told.]”

Manafort was also responsible for hiring veteran pollster Tony Fabrizio, a libertarian who worked for Rand Paul’s campaign, whereas Lewandowski wanted to hire Ted Cruz’s former pollster Kelly Ann Conway.
