GOP nominee Donald Trump has called for the appointment of an independent special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton’s “email crimes,” saying that the FBI and the DOJ cannot be trusted.
During a campaign rally in Ohio, Trump called the DOJ a “political arm” of the White House, and said “After the FBI and Department of Justice whitewash of the Clinton email crimes, they certainly cannot be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton’s crimes.”
Trump’s renewed calls for action over Clinton’s emails came following the discovery of 15,000 more emails by the FBI, which contain more evidence of Hillary abusing her position as Secretary of State by mixing official affairs with Clinton Foundation activity.
“These new emails confirm that Hillary Clinton abused her office by selling favors to Clinton Foundation donors,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “There needs to be a serious, independent investigation to determine whether Clinton and others broke the law.”
Trump seized on the revelations to go after his political opponent.
“Hillary Clinton said she turned over all of her work-related emails. She testified to Congress under penalty of perjury. Now we learn about another 15,000 emails she failed to turn over and they’ve just been discovered,” Trump said.
“Some former prosecutors have even suggested that the coordination between the pay-for-play State Department and the corrupt Clinton Foundation constitute a clear example of a RICO (Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization) enterprise,” Trump declared.
“The Justice Department is required to appoint an independent Special Prosecutor because it has proven itself to be a political arm of the White House,” he added.
“The DOJ has acted very unethically, particularly the Attorney General’s private lengthy meeting with Bill Clinton shortly before the Department’s decision not to prosecute her for crimes that would have been prosecuted against almost any other citizen,” Trump said.
“If the Justice Department fails to do so, it will make it even clearer that a second of the four primary constitutional Departments have been corrupted,” he added.
Trump also spoke about former Secretary of State Colin Powell declaring that Hillary Clinton is attempting to “pin” her email crimes on him.
“The truth is she was using it for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did [during my term as Secretary of State]… Her people have been trying to pin it on me.” Powell said in comments to the New York Post’s Page Six.
“Colin Powell just proved again how dishonest Hillary Clinton is after he busted her for trying to pin the email scandal on him – one more Hillary Clinton lie,” Trump told supporters.
