In an age of unprecedented humiliation for Mainstream Media entities, Hollywood is making an attempt to mitigate the damage done by President Trump’s crusade against fake news, and restore the reputation of organizations like the Washington Post.

The new movie entitled ‘The Post’ details the Washington Post’s role in the 1971 release of secret government documents known as the “Pentagon Papers”.

It’s plainly evident that the movie intends to characterize not just the Post, but the entire traditional system of news media as heroic crusaders for truth.

It seems, however, that the movie is not purely an account of the history of the Post, but rather is meant to draw parallels between the past and present day; Tom Hanks (who plays Executive Editor Ben Bradlee) has even asserted that both Richard Nixon and Donald Trump have launched attacks on freedom of the press.

In the Washington Post’s article covering the first screening of the movie, actor Bradley Whitford is quoted as saying “It’s shown in the movie that the press works for the governed, not the government.”

This may be true of some outlets, but it is decidedly false when it comes to the Washington Post.

The Post has a long and storied history of working with US intelligence agencies, particularly the CIA.

Its written in the book “Legacy of Ashes” that Allen Dulles, the CIA’s first official Chief, “kept in close touch with the men who ran the New York Times, The Washington Post, and the nation’s leading weekly magazines. He could pick up the phone and edit a breaking story, make sure an irritating foreign correspondent was yanked from the field, or hire the services of men such as Time’s Berlin bureau chief and Newsweek’s man in Tokyo”

In fact, Zerohedge has an entire article dedicated to the Washington Post’s collusion with the CIA.

But this is not only an issue of the past.

In 2013 the Washington Post was purchased by Jeff Bezos, a man with a $600 million dollar contract with the CIA.

On the surface the contract is between Bezos and the CIA for the purpose of using Amazon to create a data cloud service for the US intelligence community, however there is no way to minimize the connection between the CIA, Bezos, and one of the nation’s largest news outlets, the Washington Post.

What some may see as merely a movie is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at reviving the dying reputation of mainstream news outlets, by another failing industry with its own dying reputation.
