State Rep. Elliott Naishtat, D-Austin, filed legislation today aimed at cracking down on online retailers, like Amazon Inc., that avoid collecting and paying sales taxes.
Amazon announced last week it would close its Texas distribution center and warehouse after the comptroller handed the company a $269 million tax bill.
Gov. Rick Perry criticized the comptroller’s decision to collect the money, telling The Washington Examiner that it was not a decision he would have supported.
