The surge in migration is becoming problematic for several Swedish municipalities. The ones that have received many so-called newly arrived students in school must “prioritize” and “cut welfare”, Sverige Radio reports.

For municipalities, the new arrivals mean significant additional costs, which they cannot afford because the government contribution is too small.

When a student is an asylum seeker, the municipality receives financial compensation for schooling from the Migration Board.
