More Mexicans were deported from the United States than those who migrated there last year, according to a second study this week showing a changing pattern of migration in the region.
The study, released Wednesday by Mexico’s College of the Northern Border, said the flow of Mexicans to the United States started falling in 2008, when more than 700,000 crossings were recorded, to less than 350,000 in 2011.
“During the same period, the number of migrants returned and deported by the the US authorities (in border areas) didn’t decrease by the same amount, and went from 500,000 to 350,000,” researcher Rene Martin Zenteno said in a statement.
