A top female politician in the northern Spanish city of Leon has been shot dead in public.
Isabel Carrasco, the local head of Spain’s ruling Popular Party (PP), was shot several times by a young woman as she crossed a footbridge.
She was attacked while on her way to a party meeting at about 17:20 local time (15:20 GMT). A woman has been arrested, according to reports.
Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has cancelled engagements.
