Four Senate Republican opponents of the Gang of Eight immigration bill are mounting an effort to sway their colleagues against the legislation.
Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Mike Lee of Utah and Chuck Grassley of Iowa sent a “Dear Colleague” letter Tuesday afternoon laying out specific criticisms of the bill, saying it would give “immediate” legalization to undocumented immigrants without adequate border security and does not repair the legal immigration system.
The four senators, who voted against the bill in the Judiciary Committee, said the process of marking up the bill was “predicated on a deal struck before” the committee process began.
