Since announcing her presidential run, the establishment media has portrayed Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann as the Tea Party’s candidate. The Tea Party is supposed to be at its heart about the Constitution and the political philosophy of the founders, including George Washington’s admonition about foreign entanglements.
The original political cosmology of the Tea Party was lost when it was cynically exploited by Republican operatives. The Tea Party was retooled as a cheering section for the establishment. Bachmann, as the leader of the House’s Tea Party Caucus, played an instrumental role in neutering it.
On Thursday, Bachmann sparred with Ron Paul, who was instrumental in the creation of the original libertarian Tea Party before it was sold down the river to the waiting arms of Bachmann and the Koch Republicans.
During a Fox News debate in Iowa last night, Ron Paul said the United States has no legitimate claim to block Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Bachmann, revealing her true neocon colors, said his position is dangerous.
Bachmann said Iran is led by “an avowed madman” and committed to destroying Israel. She says Iran must be stopped. She diligently followed her neocon generated script to the letter and ignorantly repeated assertions about Iran that are not supported by reality but are in fact propaganda lies.
“With all due respect to Ron Paul, I think I have never heard a more dangerous answer for American security than the one that we just heard from Ron Paul,” Bachmann said. “I’ll tell you the reason why, the reason why I would say that is because we know without a shadow of a doubt that Iran will take a nuclear weapon, they will use it to wipe our ally Israel off the face of the map and they stated they will use it against the United States of America. Look no further than the Iranian constitution, which states unequivocally that their mission is to extend jihad across the world and eventually to set up for worldwide caliphate. we would be fools to ignore their purpose and their plan.”

Iran has not invaded or attacked another nation in well over a hundred years, while in this same time period the United States has invaded numerous countries, most recently Iran’s neighbors Afghanistan and Iraq. The U.S. and Israel have declared war on Iran and are behind explosions inside the country, the assassination of its nuclear scientists (including shooting the wife of one scientist) and are behind cyber attacks. It has encouraged Turkey to host terrorists groups designed to overthrow the Iranian government.
The fabrication that Iran will nuke Israel is gleaned from a mistranslation of an Ahmadinejad speech. In fact, Ahmadinejad said the regime occupying the holy city of Jerusalem will “vanish from the page of times.” Ahmadinejad did not say Iran will wipe Israel off the map. He didn’t even mention Israel by name.
The translation was provided by MEMRI, a pro-Israel group specializing in translations designed to make Muslims and Arabs out to be violent antisemites. The deliberately mistranslated speech has become gospel for the establishment media as it continues to demonize Iran and prepare the public for war.
Bachmann is a non-contender in the presidential race, so her jabs at Paul are basically insignificant. However, the exchange highlights the difference between Ron Paul and the other GOP candidates, all whom support belligerence against Iran to one degree or another.
Once again, Ron Paul demonstrates that he is the only candidate for Americans interested in peace and sanity. A vote for Romney, Perry, Bachmann and especially the unfettered warmonger Newt Gingrich is a vote for all-out war and destruction – not only of Iran, but the United States as well.
