A new Rasmussen poll has found that 1 in 5 Democrats agree with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo that ‘America was never great’.
While the survey revealed that a majority of voters across the political spectrum disagree with the comments, it highlighted the fact that a sizable portion of Democrats do not share a view that America is or was ever ‘great’.
Last week, Cuomo, who is eying a Presidential run in 2020 said at a news gathering that “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.”
According to the Rasmussen poll, a majority of 67% of likely voters disagreed with statement, while 17 percent agreed and 16 percent were undecided.
The telling figures came when splitting the respondents along party lines.
While only a tiny fraction of Republicans agree America isn’t great, 20% of Democrats do think that.
The comments riled many Americans, including the President, who suggested that Cuomo was having a meltdown.
“WE’RE NOT GOING TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, IT WAS NEVER THAT GREAT.” Can you believe this is the Governor of the Highest Taxed State in the U.S., Andrew Cuomo, having a total meltdown!

Trump declared that Cuomo’s political career is over:
Wow! Big pushback on Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York for his really dumb statement about America’s lack of greatness. I have already MADE America Great Again, just look at the markets, jobs, military- setting records, and we will do even better. Andrew “choked” badly, mistake!

When a politician admits that “We’re not going to make America great again,” there doesn’t seem to be much reason to ever vote for him. This could be a career threatening statement by Andrew Cuomo, with many wanting him to resign-he will get higher ratings than his brother Chris!

Which is worse, Hightax Andrew Cuomo's statement, “WE’RE NOT GOING TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, IT WAS NEVER THAT GREAT” or Hillary Clinton’s “DEPLORABLES” statement…

…I say Andrew’s was a bigger and more incompetent blunder. He should easily win his race against a Super Liberal Actress, but his political career is over!

Cuomo responded by insinuating Trump wanted the KKK to make a come back:
.@RealDonaldTrump: What you say would be 'great again' would not be great at all…We will not go back to discrimination, segregation, sexism, isolationism, racism or the KKK.
Like NY's motto says: Excelsior — Ever Upward (not backward) https://t.co/nrcUrsYJCO

After the backlash, Cuomo backpedaled and described his comments as “inartful.”
Speaking to The Associated Press, he said “Of course America is great and of course America has always been great.”
