Police hunting the murderer of a 13-year-old girl in California have taken DNA swabs from students at a her former school in an effort to nail her killer in a crime that has baffled detectives.

FOX40 reports Sacramento County detectives visited Albert Einstein Middle School to interview and take DNA cheek swabs from three or four students.

The students who had their DNA taken did not have their parents with them when the samples were taken.

‘Regardless of whether the individual is an adult or a juvenile, they are capable of giving consent.
We don’t require the consent of a parent if we’re doing it with someone of a younger age,’ said Deputy Jason Ramos of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
