Outspoken director Oliver Stone has hit out at the push toward war in Syria weeks after calling the president a “snake” that must be turned on.
In a series of tweets, the Platoon and Born On The Fourth Of July director expressed his derision at the prospect of the US being forced into another war by over zealous leaders and a lap dog media.
I’m very depressed today. As we inch closer to another intervention, our media beats the drum for war in search of ratings.

Last month Stone rounded on Barack Obama over the NSA domestic spying scandal.
“Obama is a snake,” Stone told the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan. “He’s a snake. And we have to turn on him.”
Stone argued that Obama is using terrorism as an excuse for utilizing the same big government surveillance techniques, focused on the American people, that figures such as J. Edgar Hoover did.
Stone has previously decried US foreign policy under Obama, and spoken out regarding the administration’s disregard for the rule of law.
He has called Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and that people have forgiven him a lot because of the “nightmare of the Bush presidency that preceded him.”
“He has taken all the Bush changes he basically put them into the establishment, he has codified them,” Stone told RT last year. “It is an Orwellian state. It might not be oppressive on the surface, but there is no place to hide. Some part of you is going to end up in the database somewhere.”
With his comments on Syria, Stone, who served as an infantry soldier during the Vietnam war, is relatively isolated amongst “anti-war” leftists, many of whom either meekly oppose or actually support obama’s push to attack Syria.
Asked recently ‘where is the anti-war movement now?’, former Congressman Dennis Kucinich replied “What anti-war movement?”
Medea Benjamin of the radical group Code Pink notes: “The anti-war movement is a shadow of its former self under the Bush years.” Anti-war mom Cindy Sheehan recently noted “The ‘anti-war left’ was used by the Democratic Party. I like to call it the ‘anti-Republican War’ movement.”
A recent online Washington Post piece details how Obama successfully demobilized the anti-war movement, citing a 2011 study by sociologists Michael T. Heaney and Fabio Rojas, who found that anti-war protests shrunk very quickly after Obama took office in 2008.
