Republican and Democratic senators on Tuesday emerged from a White House meeting with President Barack Obama closer to common ground on energy and climate legislation, with Democrats saying they are willing to scale back their bill as a compromise for Republican support.

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I., Conn.) after the meeting said some Republican colleagues voiced that they were willing to compromise on a bill.

“All of us have to compromise,” Sen. John Kerry (D., Mass.) said. He added, “We are prepared to scale back the reach of our legislation.”
