[efoods]ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A convoy of trucks carrying supplies destined for NATO forces in Afghanistan came under attack on Thursday in the southern port city of Karachi, leaving three people wounded, police officials said.
The attack came as the convoy left Port Qasim for Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. Gunmen on motorcycles intercepted three trucks southwest of the city and threw a grenade inside a vehicle, wounding three Pakistani civilian employees.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility.
About 80 percent of the supplies for American and coalition forces in Afghanistan flow through Pakistan.
Karachi is known as the commercial and financial hub of the country, and bulk of the supplies intended for NATO forces arrive here. Convoys then follow two routes: one crosses the Khyber Pass in the North-West Frontier Province to enter Afghanistan; the second route crosses through Chaman in Baluchistan Province.
