Just in the nick of time. The TSA has come under a lot of scrutiny lately as outrage grows around the country over goons in gloves touching the junk of everybody from toddlers to grandmas. Then there was a suspicious if not improbable al-Qaeda underwear bomber threat to get things back on track. Now we have a French woman with a “surgically implanted device” on transatlantic flight.

Agence France-Presse fills us in:

The US Airways plane, flying from Paris, was diverted to Maine on Tuesday where the woman was taken into custody by the FBI before the Boeing 767 continued its journey to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Coming on the heels of a thwarted airline bomb plot by Al-Qaeda’s Yemen branch, the incident has laid bare US worry over shifting tactics of extremists as they seek new ways — and new technologies, including non-metallic bombs — for landing a deadly blow against an American target.

Inner Party members like to hold press briefings when such things happen – coincidentally or otherwise:

Senator Susan Collins, the ranking Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, highlighted the concerns shortly after news broke of Flight 787’s diversion to Maine, saying there has been “intelligence identifying surgically implanted bombs as a threat to air travel.”

Collins, briefed on the incident by Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole, said TSA recently issued security directives to airports, airlines, and foreign governments, “advising them to take added screening precautions and to be on the lookout for indicators of surgically implanted explosives.”

“My understanding is T.S.A. issued security directives recently to airports, airline carriers, T.S.A. screeners and foreign governments advising them to take added screening precautions and to be on the lookout for indicators of surgically implanted explosives,” said Collins.

Who would’ve thunk after the TSA issued its directive another false alarm would mysteriously materialize?

Pistole’s “added screening precautions” will get the Gestapo goons back in the saddle again and help dismiss critics who say the crotch groping and breast fondling is way out of control.

It was later learned that the French woman in question “appears to be psychologically disturbed,” was pegged a “weirdo,” and that “doctors on the flight checked her out and did not see any sign of recent scars.”

False alarm or another happenstance propaganda incident?

You decide.
