Sen. John McCain (R-Az.) told CNN he lost “thousands of dollars” while playing poker on his iPhone after getting “bored” at a senate hearing on military action in Syria.
“Well, as much as I like to always listen in with rapt attention constantly [to] remarks of my colleagues for three and a half hour periods, occasionally I get a little bored,” McCain said while trying to hold back laughter. “But the worst thing about it is that I lost thousands of dollars in this game.”
“It was a poker game.”
McCain admitted later that he didn’t actually lose any real money but was still disappointed in losing at poker.
After Washington Post photographer Melina Mara published a photo of McCain playing the poker game during the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting, he responded on Twitter.
“Scandal!” he wrote. “Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing – worst of all I lost!”
Other users of Twitter didn’t see the humor.
“Absolutely a disgrace playing games while discussing sending our children to war in Syria,” flores8047 responded.
“I can’t believe this is the man who wore the same uniform & wings as I… Disgrace,” CJPrichard1 wrote, who is a Navy pilot and veteran of Iraq.
It would be wise for McCain to pay more attention during the meeting.
Back in May, he said that only a small portion of the Syrian rebels allied with al-Qaeda are radical jihadists fighting to turn Syria into an Islamic state ruled by Sharia law.
“They’re flowing in all the time, these extremists,” the senator said. “But they still do not make up a sizable portion.”
In fact, the Obama-backed, al-Qaeda “rebels” are largely radical Sunni Salafists who are beating Syrian citizens into submission and beheading Christians to feed to dogs.
“Nowhere in rebel-controlled Syria is there a secular fighting force to speak of,” the New York Times reported back in April. “The Islamist character of the opposition reflects the main constituency of the rebellion.”
The newspaper further stated that the secular rebel groups in Syria have had great difficulty securing weapons for the civil war, which had led to al-Qaeda groups taking control of many cities.
These are the very same al-Qaeda “rebels” that McCain wanted to arm for a proxy war which may ultimately lead to World War 3.
