Editor’s Note: Rosenstein said he resigned “verbally” last week, which has all the hallmarks of a trap against Trump: if the president announced Rosenstein’s resignation, the Deputy AG could then dispute the news since he had nothing in writing.
Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe reacted to the reported ouster of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in a panicked statement, once again denying taking any part in leaking Russia probe information to the media.
“To be clear, I had no role in providing information of any kind to the media stories about events following Director Comey’s firing. If the rumors of Deputy AG Rosenstein’s departure are true, I am deeply concerned that it puts that investigation at risk,” he said in a statement Monday.

McCabe claims he put the Russia probe “on a proper course,” when in fact he was fired last March at the recommendation of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility for lying about leaking to the media.
The OPR even sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice over his conduct.
“There is nothing more important than the integrity of law enforcement and the rule of law than protecting the investigation of Special Counsel Mueller. I sacrificed personally and professionally to help put the investigation on a proper course and subsequently made every effort to protect it.”
McCabe recently secured a book deal which is said to portray President Trump in a negative light.
“I wrote this book because the president’s attacks on me symbolize his destructive effect on the country as a whole,” he said last week.
“He is undermining America’s safety and security, and eroding public confidence in its institutions. His attacks on the most crucial institutions of government, and on the professionals who serve within them, should make every American stand up and take notice.”
Rosenstein is reported to have resigned verbally to Chief of Staff John Kelly on Monday following a NYT report last week claiming he suggested surreptitiously recording Trump with a wire and rallying Congress to invoke the 25th amendment to remove him.
