Male house mice don’t just squeak but sing melodic love songs to attract female partners, just like birds.

Their romantic melodies are pitched at the ultra-sonic range beyond our hearing.

But each mouse has his own individual signature tune which he sings in the hope of wooing a female mouse.

She is attracted by the male songs and can even distinguish different songs among brothers.

It has been known for some time that male house mice have these extra sounds they can cry out but it has always been assumed they were just squeaking.
