Two firms with a big Central Florida presence landed major contracts totaling $89 million, the U.S. Department of Defense reported this month.

Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) on Dec. 26 won an $80 million contract from the U.S. Navy for services on multiple defense systems to protect battleships.

The global firm, which has offices in Melbourne and Orlando, will provide services for the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, SeaRAM, and land-based Phalanx Weapon System — weapons mounted on warships that can detect incoming attacks and shoot down missiles.
