The winner of the Miss USA 2017 beauty pageant drew scorn from liberals for her conservative-oriented responses to questions Sunday night.
Miss District of Columbia Kara McCullough surprised many when she proclaimed her belief that health care is a “privilege” and not a “right.”
“District of Columbia, you’re up. Do you think affordable health care for all U.S. citizens is a right or a privilege and why?” the presenter asked.
“I’m definitely going to say it’s a privilege,” McCullough responded.
“As a government employee, I am granted health care, and I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have a job. Therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we’re given the opportunities to have health care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide.”
The 25-year-old also differed from other contestants in her answers when asked about feminism and its role in today’s society.
“What do you consider feminism to be, and do you consider yourself a feminist?” presenters asked.
Again deviating from liberal talking points, Miss DC stated that she does not consider herself a “die hard” feminist, and asserted her beliefs that women “are just as equal as men” in the workplace.
“As a woman scientist in the government, I would like to lately transpose the word feminism to equalism. I don’t really want to consider myself — try not to consider myself like this die hard, you know, like, oh, I don’t really care about men, but one thing I want to say, though, women, we are just as equal as men when it comes to opportunity in the workplace.
“And I say firsthand I have witnessed the impact that women have in leadership in the medical sciences as well as in the office environment, so as Miss USA, I would hope to promote that kind of leadership responsibility globally to so many women worldwide.”
Despite McCullough’s history as a successful black woman – she’s a scientist at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission with a degree in radiochemistry – liberals on Twitter immediately disowned her over her views.

It's incredibly sad that in 2017, a woman is striving to occupy a position of influence w/ no understanding of what feminism is. #MissUSA

“Needless to say, liberals were very upset that a smart, beautiful African-American woman took home the crown, because she espoused conservative views,” writes Alexa Moutevelis Coombs at NewsBusters.
McCullough will next compete for the title of Miss Universe.
