The latest assault of vitamins and supplements comes from Dr. Tim Byers, billed as one of the world’s leading cancer experts.

“We are not sure why this is happening but evidence shows that people who take more dietary supplements than needed tend to have a higher risk of developing cancer,” Byer told The Mirror.

Byer said animal studies initially showed supplements were beneficial.

“When we first tested dietary supplements in animal models we found that the results were promising,” he said.

“Eventually we were able to move on to humans. We studied thousands of patients for 10 years who were taking dietary supplements and placebos.

“We found that the supplements were actually not beneficial for their health. In fact, some people actually got more cancer while on the vitamins.”

The vitamins in question include vitamin E tablets, beta-carotene and folic acid.

The War On Vitamins

Byer’s conclusions will likely support the argument that vitamins and dietary supplements are dangerous and therefore must be regulated by the government.

Earlier this month The New York Times called for the Food and Drug Administration to regulate dietary supplements. The argument centers on vitamins containing an amphetamine-like stimulant called BMPEA.

“The Food and Drug Administration itself discovered in 2013 that some weight-loss and workout supplements sold in the United States that list acacia rigidula on their labels also secretly contained BMPEA,” the newspaper wrote on April 9. “The agency found the chemical in at least nine products but never named those products or warned consumers about the risk. Nor did it ask the companies to remove the stimulant from their supplements.”

The controversy over BMPEA has resulted in the FDA stepping up its efforts to regulate the homeopathic product industry.

“Homeopathy is an excellent example of the purest form of pseudoscience,” Steven Novella, a neurologist at Yale and executive editor of the website Science-Based Medicine, told NPR on April 20. “These are principles that are not based upon science.”

Novella and others believe homeopathic remedies could be dangerous if they’re contaminated or toxic.

The Elephant in the Room: Staggering Death Rate Attributed to Big Pharma Drugs

Omitted from the discussion on the potential danger of dietary supplements and homeopathic medications is the staggering death toll attributed to government regulated and approved drugs manufactured and sold by Big Pharma.

“Prescription drugs are now killing far more people than illegal drugs, and while most major causes of preventable deaths are declining, those from prescription drug use are increasing,” notes Dr. Joseph Mercola, a New York Times best-selling author.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control, in 2009, for the first time ever in the US, more people were killed by drugs than motor vehicle accidents. Moreover, drug fatalities more than doubled among teens and young adults between 2000 and 2008, and more than tripled among people aged 50 to 69.

“Again, these drug-induced fatalities are not being driven by illegal street drugs; the analysis found that the most commonly abused prescription drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin, Xanax and Soma now cause more deaths than heroin and cocaine combined,” writes Mercola.

And yet the FDA and the government are concerned about an amphetamine-like stimulant called BMPEA when they should be addressing the far more serious issue of drug overdose and toxicity produced by the corporate pharmaceutical industry.
