Kony 2012 has plenty to say about the world and what it means to be living in it. This is my attempt to set out its “world view” or weltanschauung as they say in Uganda. Never mind the rights or incredibly wrongs of what’s going on, this is just an exercise in Konyology.
… Kony 2012 floats free of the past, in its glorious right-nowness, which is where CHANGE happens: “this change we are going to make is going to last forever …” A change you can believe in. A change that changes everything: “that is what is going to change this world …” All change please.
… Something bigger even than Joseph Kony. As Luis Moreno Ocampo of the international criminal court tells us: “We are living in a new world”. A world in which WE get to ‘dictate’ the priorities. A dictatorship of the people, if you will. With a people’s army: “All of this was funded by an army of young people …”
