A federal judge sentenced Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif to 18 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release for his role in planning to murder dozens of military recruits and government employees at a South Seattle Military Building.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said Abdul-Latif is a dangerous man and the streets of Seattle are safer with him in prison. Abdul-Latif pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and conspiracy to murder officers and employees of the U.S. government.

A joint area task force was investigating Abdul-Latif for months as he plotted and planned the attack. Shortly after Abdul-Latif purchased three machine guns for $800, the FBI and Seattle police arrested him.
