Richard Perle, aka the Prince of Darkness, is back. “I am willing to accuse Iran of building nuclear weapons,” Perle told RT on Wednesday. “I do not think there is any question about it,” despite the fact there is no definitive evidence Iran is using its nuclear energy program to build weapons.

Perle is one of the main masterminds behind the invasion of Iraq that killed over a million Iraqis. He was the chairman of the Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board Advisory Committee in 2001.

Perle associated with the American Enterprise Institute and the Project for the New American Century, both of which worked with the Bush neocons to orchestrate the war. He signed a letter in late 2001 accusing Saddam Hussein of participating in the September 11 attacks.

In 2006, he said a Bush administration State Department offer of negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program amounted to “appeasement” and last year predicted Israel will eventually attack Iran.

During the interview, Perle dismissed the allegation that the invasion of Iraq was launched under false pretense. “What are you suggesting? That we stop trying to figure out whether Iran has nuclear weapons, because there were intelligence errors with respect to Iraq? Should the US dismantle its intelligence organizations? Of course not!”

In 2004, the Senate Intelligence Committee found that the CIA’s prewar estimates of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction were wildly overstated and unsupported by intelligence. Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, told reporters that intelligence used to support the invasion of Iraq was based on assessments that were “unreasonable and largely unsupported by the available intelligence,” CNN reported at the time.
