Iraq Body Count compiles the world’s most comprehensive set of casualty figures for deaths in Iraq since the invasion in 2003. And while the war has slipped from the political debate since forces began their withdrawal, the latest annual report from IBC provides a fascinating insight into a conflict in which over 150,000 people have died.
The figures show that 2010 was relatively peaceful for Iraq: ‘only’ 3,976 people died from violence in the country in 2010 – the lowest figure since the year began. But, as the report says:
For those who have lost loved ones in 2010, there is no sense in which the year can represent an “improvement” on 2009
