While Governor Jay Inslee wants the state’s top polluters to pay for new roads, lawmakers seem more focused on taxing drivers.
Senator Curtis King, R-Yakima, said raising the gas tax to pay for a transportation package is a more likely, yet unpopular, route.
“Nobody likes to pay more, nobody like new taxes,” said Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima.
King said gas taxes have always been used to pay for roads and investing money now will save taxpayer dollars down the road.
