A 32-year-old soldier from Kingwood has been taken into custody in Iraq as authorities investigate reports that he became so enraged after an argument that he grabbed his gun and began firing, wounding one soldier and killing two others.

U.S. Army Spc. Neftaly Platero was placed in pre-trial confinement shortly after the slayings on Thursday in Fallujah, a former insurgent stronghold 40 miles west of Baghdad.

Col. Barry Johnson, a U.S. military spokesman, did not reveal what provoked the verbal altercation that allegedly involved Platero and the other soldiers.
