French President Francois Hollande will call an emergency meeting of the Secretariat-General for National Defence and Security Friday morning following the Nice terror attack, according to statement from Élysée Palace.

Thursday evening a truck rammed through crowds of people who had gathered at the Promenade des Anglaise to watch a fireworks show dedicated to the Bastille Day.

According to the eyewitnesses, the truck drove some 1.2 miles without stopping, zigzagging through the crowd. At least 80 have been confirmed killed, with dozens reported to be critically wounded.

The emergency meeting is expected to start at 9:00 local time.
