African-Americans are starting to exit the Democratic Party due to its ongoing collapse – and the allure of President-elect Donald Trump who has vowed to improve inner cities.
The first indication was Hillary Clinton’s low poll numbers among blacks throughout the presidential campaign, the lowest of any Democratic presidential candidate in decades.
Analysts and political operatives have offered a variety of reasons for the sizable decline in Democrat support from black voters, including Clinton’s inability to ‘energize’ her base, a lacking articulation of a clear message directed at African-American voters, and her general absence from rigorous campaigning in predominantly black areas.
But there are other, more specific and damaging factors that also came into play at the polls, many of them economic.
A Clinton presidency was essentially viewed as a third term of Barack Obama, under whom black unemployment has risen to double that of whites, black home ownership has declined, and violent crime rates in cities like Chicago and Detroit are exploding.
Donald Trump won the state of Wisconsin – a feat that was considered so unlikely, Clinton abandoned campaigning there. Recent statistics reflect that Wisconsin’s black unemployment rate of 20% is nearly twice the national average and the worst in the nation.
Despite appearances and support from big-name black celebrities like Lebron James, Beyonce, and Jay-Z, Clinton’s rallies were dwarfed by Trump’s.
In the wake of the election, some prominent African-Americans are calling on fellow blacks to leave the Democrat plantation, and give Trump a fair opportunity to prove himself as a qualified leader.
BET founder, Bob Johnson, met with Trump this past weekend, and stated in a follow-up interview on CNBC, “Let’s give him a shot. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt; see if we can find common ground… That’s what’s best for African-Americans.”
Rapper Kanye West interrupted a performance in San Jose, CA, to launch into a lengthy political tirade, proclaiming, “It’s a new world, Hillary Clinton, it’s a new world.”
“If I were to vote, I would have voted for Trump,” he added, to the shock of many attendees.
Republicans now control the White House, Senate, House of Representatives, 33 governorships, and more than two-thirds of state legislatures.
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) recently warned his own party of their emergency status.
“I’m pulling the fire alarm, because the house is burning down, and we better get our act together or we’re going to cease being a national party. We’re going to be a regional party that fails to get into the majority, and fails to do things on behalf of those working class people that were the backbone of the Democratic Party for so long.”
We are witnessing a collapsing Democratic Party that may well be on the verge of extinction.
