Pop singer Lorde’s top hit single “Royals,” has been accused of being “deeply racist” by prominent feminist blogger, Veronica Bayetti Flores.
The 16-year old New Zealand artist, Ella Yelich-O’Connor, who also goes by the stage name “Lorde,” is under scrutiny for her latest single which currently sits at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Bayetti Flores took to her feminist blog, called “Feministing,” to bash the young artist for what she calls “deeply racist” lyrics that talk about gold teeth and Cadillacs.
“While I love a good critique of wealth accumulation and inequity, this song is not one; in fact, it is deeply racist,” wrote Bayetti Flores.
“Because we all know who she’s thinking when we’re talking gold teeth, Cristal (champagne) and Maybachs. So why s— on black folks? Why s— on rappers?”
Listeners took to the song not only because of the catchy beat, but because in it Lorde rejects the “trappings of consumerism.” The No. 1 single, which has beat out other “popular” artists like Miley Cyrus, places the teenager as the youngest artist to top the U.S. Chart in 26 years.
This is yet another example of the way our culture demonizes people through the use of “political correctness.”
Over the last few decades our authoritarian government has begun using “political correctness” as a tool to dampen free speech and demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with the viewpoints currently being projected by the establishment.
The term “politically correct” was originally coined by the Communists and Socialists, particularly the Soviet Union, in political debates during the early-to-mid 20th century to provide for “correct positions” on political matters.
The “New Left” has adopted the term and uses it to call people racists, subsequently dampening the constitutional right to free speech.
Infowars’ Kit Daniels released a report today illustrating how the “Media hypes up controversy so they can falsely label gov’t critics as ‘racist.’
According to the report, “The mainstream media is currently hyping up controversies surrounding the names of sport teams accused of sounding racist in order to exaggerate the prevalence of racism in America, which makes it easier for politicians to suppress their opposition by falsely labeling them ‘racist.’
New Zealand journalist Lynda Brendish responded to the criticisms acknowledging that, “Not everything in this world should be viewed through the lens of Americans, particularly when it comes to race and cultures of other countries. To insist otherwise is ignorant at best and imperialistic at worst.”
Despite the immense criticism Bayetti Flores has received over her comments, she defended them in an email to CNN.
