Just three days after their huge fake news blunder that prompted widespread embarrassment, CNN is refusing to show any contrition and immediately returned to attacking Trump this morning.
On Friday, CNN breathlessly reported on an email that secretly offered the Trump campaign special access to the DNC emails before they were published online.
The news network hyped the claim that the email was sent on September 4, 2016, ten days before Wikileaks publicly released the emails.
However, in a turnaround that was labeled “one of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite a long time,” it quickly became clear that the email had in fact been sent on September 14, eviscerating the entire foundation of the story.
While this should have prompted a huge moment of reflection for the network, CNN has already glossed over the issue and returned to viciously attacking the president.
Earlier this morning, CNN New Day hosts Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota ripped into Trump over an unsubstantiated claim that Trump watches four to eight hours of television a day.
“So if he watches between four to eight hours… of cable news a day, first of all that’s more than even doctors recommend,” said Camerota “And second of all, shouldn’t he be busier?”
“He parrots the prattle that comes off that couch on Fox on a regular basis,” added Cuomo, who then went on to bash Trump for taking, “High ground on making errors when he has an unprecedented number of errors himself, none of which he has ever corrected or apologized for.”
While it would be the height of naivety to expect CNN to change course, one would at least expect the network to take a moment of pause after committing one of the biggest blunders in recent memory, but the likes of Cuomo and Camerota only seem intent on doubling down.
