Beloved comedian Norm Macdonald drew criticism from the politically correct thought police after sharing his thoughts on the #MeToo movement in a candid interview.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Tuesday, Macdonald said he was thankful #MeToo was dying down as he believed the movement might be starting to get out of hand.
“I’m happy the #MeToo movement has slowed down a little bit,” Macdonald commented. “It used to be, ‘One hundred women can’t be lying.’ And then it became, ‘One woman can’t lie.’ And that became, ‘I believe all women.’ And then you’re like, ‘What?’ Like, that Chris Hardwick guy I really thought got the blunt end of the stick there.”
In the same interview, the Saturday Night Live alum also discussed his experiences with comedians Roseanne Barr and Louis C.K. after their respective shows were cancelled, leading many to claim he was defending them.
“Well, Louis [C.K.] and Roseanne [Barr] are the two people I know. And Roseanne was so broken up [after her show’s reboot was canceled] that I got Louis to call her, even though Roseanne was very hard on Louis before that. But she was just so broken and just crying constantly. There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, ‘What about the victims?’ But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.”
In a Wednesday tweet, Macdonald clarified he was not defending Barr’s or CK’s actions, and apologized to victims he may have offended.
Roseanne and Louis have both been very good friends of mine for many years. They both made terrible mistakes and I would never defend their actions. If my words sounded like I was minimizing the pain that their victims feel to this day, I am deeply sorry.

The apology was not enough, however, for NBC, whose execs moved to cancel Macdonald’s Tuesday guest appearance on The Tonight Show.
“Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald’s comments in the press today, The Tonight Show has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday’s telecast,” the network said in a statement.
Appearing on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday, Macdonald defended his comments and reiterated he had not attacked the victims, but instead was highly supportive of #MeToo.
“I never defended them,” he said. “I am completely behind the #MeToo movement.”
He continued, “You’d have to have Down Syndrome to not feel sorry for— #MeToo is what you want for your daughters and you want that to be the future world, of course. And I meet all kinds of women with terrible stories of what’s happened to them. So, I wasn’t talking about the victims. They asked me about Roseanne.”
Despite the PC left’s outrage, Macdonald’s new Netflix talk show, titled, “Norm Macdonald Has a Show,” will debut on Sept. 14.
