Britain’s intelligence agency MI5 is facing tough questions over Woolwich attack, following the emergence of a photo of one of the suspects in a protest outside the Old Bailey in 2006.

Whitehall sources revealed that the suspects of the London attack, in which British soldier Lee Rigby was beheaded by two assailants, had cropped up in “several investigations” by MI5 in recent years.

The attacker Micheal Adebolajo and his accomplice, named locally last night as Michael Oluwatobi Adebowale, were not deemed to be planning an attack, the sources said.

According to local media reports, Adebolajo, who is British-born and of Nigerian descent, has been linked to an organization banned from allegedly professing extremist views.

Police detectives have so far arrested a 29-year-old man and woman on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and searched five properties in London and one in Lincolnshire.

MI5 and Scotland Yard are now trying to find out if the two attackers are part of a terror group that could carry out further atrocities.
