UPDATE: INSIDE JOB: POLICE SAY OFFICER SHOT, TORCHED OWN VEHICLE

A Millis, Massachusetts police cruiser crashed and caught fire Wednesday after being hit with gunfire shortly after 3 p.m.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, “preliminary investigation indicates the shots were fired from a dark colored – possibly maroon – pickup truck” that fled the scene.

In an attempt to locate the suspect, who was described only as a white male, Massachusetts State Police have deployed a helicopter from the department’s Air Wing unit as well as other police from surrounding areas.

“Additionally, State Police detectives, K9 units, crime scene technicians, ballistics technicians, and fire investigators are en route to the scene to assist,” police said.

No injuries have been reported thus far.

This latest shooting follows Tuesday’s shooting death of an Illinois police officer, the suspected homicide of Abilene, Texas Officer Don Allen Monday and the execution-style shooting of a Harris Co., Texas, deputy sheriff late last week.
