Our beautiful American values have been subordinated to the “safety” of a security state

When I was growing up in rural Texas we played some games that were close to being rituals of manhood.

One game was “Trading Licks,” which basically involved taking turns hitting one another on an escalating basis with an audience.
The hits could be designated to any area but generally were to the stomach or to the shoulder.
The audience showed their appreciation of how good the hit was and particularly how good the hit was taken by verbalizing, “Oh yea, that was a good one! How did that feel? Y’all ready for another round?” and so on.
Then things would escalate.
It went on round after round until someone said they had enough or a fight broke out, which was rarely.
Generally this inculcated a value system that encouraged fair play, self-control and stoicism.
Being tough and being able “to take a lick” was considered necessary to manliness.
Current behavioral guidelines teach us to seek help from authority rather than to take care of ourselves.
We are encouraged under new cultural mores to be “cry babies” and if we “see something, say something.”
Ayman al-Zawahri, the leader of Jabhat al-Nusra who we, as a country, are supporting in order to bring down the Assad regime in Syria, has called for individual muslims in the U.S. to “bleed America economically” with small scale (terrorist) strikes initially and then later “a more significant strike.”
”We should bleed America economically by provoking it to continue in its massive expenditure on its security,” he said. “For the weak point of America is its economy, which has already begun to stagger due to the military and security expenditure.”
The greatest injury our country has sustained has been self-imposed by giving in to fear that there might be a “terrorist attack.”
I challenge everyone to look up the odds of injury and death we face on actuarial tables.
The risk from terrorism is minuscule compared with the risk of driving down the road.
Yet every year, Congress reaffirms and votes formally that we continue in a STATE OF EMERGENCY.
This STATE OF EMERGENCY is what makes our Constitution, “a g**d*** piece of paper,” as George Bush said.
As long as we are in a state of emergency, our civil liberties are virtually null and void.
Study This.
We have made a terrible error by giving in to fear and allowing our beautiful American values be subordinated to the “safety” of a security state.
We once were truly exceptional by being “the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.”
It’s time to repent from being “cry babies,” to quit over defending ourselves and to take back our free and open society by ENDING the state of emergency.
YES WE CAN, we can, take our licks.
We can start taking our country back by formally ENDING the state of emergency.
This is one battle we can measure.
See how they squeal when we start along this path.
