Should the government shutdown continue, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be unable to monitor the spread of flu this season, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
A memo sent from the agency said that the CDC cannot “support the annual seasonal influenza program, outbreak detection and linking across state boundaries using genetic and molecular analysis, continuous updating of disease treatment and prevention recommendations.”
The flu vaccination will still be delivered to health departments and doctor’s offices. No shortages or delays are anticipated.
