U.S. Border Patrol agents will no longer offer interpreting services for local law-enforcement agencies, a practice that in the past led to controversy in the Inland area and elsewhere.
The Border Patrol says the change is to “further focus (agency) efforts on its primary mission to secure our Nation’s borders.”
Emilio Amaya, executive director of the San Bernardino Community Service Center, an immigrant-assistance group, said he’s received a number of reports of Border Patrol agents interpreting for local law-enforcement agencies, especially in Riverside County.
