Update: Watch Live Below – Arrests are now imminent as protesters have just taken over all of 5th avenue following scuffles in the streets with police.

• The main event is scheduled to start at 4 but the streets of NYC are already filling up with crowds of protestors who are being met with a heavy militarized police presence.

NYPD Following OWS May Day Protestors

The police are acting very aggressively toward the protests as just moments after the first reports of the armed national guard troops hit twitter the NYPD  tackled someone marching with the crowd who stepped off the sidewalk into the street in an attempt to J walk.  It is the second arrest so far as a veteran holding an American Flag in front of Bank of America was arrested earlier.

The reports of the armed national guard came from the timcast’s UStream of the event.
