ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, has decided to back away from defending the Second Amendment and the right of Americans to defend themselves. ALEC made the decision after the Soros-funded liberal attack dog Color of Change intimidated a number of ALEC’s corporate sponsors, including Coca-Cola Co, McDonald’s, Kraft Foods Inc. and PepsiCo Inc.
Color of Change is mobilizing to defeat “stand your ground” self defense laws in a number of states following the Trayvon Martin incident. ALEC said it will concentrate on economic issues instead of championing the right of people to defend themselves.
The Soros group said ALEC’s announcement does not go far enough. Corporate members should hold ALEC “accountable for the damage it has caused nationwide,” said Rashad Robinson, Color of Change’s executive director, according to Reuters.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has also severed ties to ALEC in recent weeks.
Peter Bella, writing for the Washington Times, said Color of Change had managed to turn “corporate public relations people into quivering gelatinous masses of jiggling glop.” He characterized Color of Change as “an organization dedicated to shutting down free speech, free expression, free markets, and free enterprise. They are against capitalism and civil liberties. They want to repeal the Second Amendment, force people to be victims, and are against stopping voter fraud.”
The organization was co-founded in 2005 by James Rucker and Van Jones. Rucker was director of Grassroots Mobilization for MoveOn.org, another George Soros funded political group. Jones was Special Advisor for Green Jobs in the Obama administration, a position he resigned from after it was learned that he belonged to Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, a San Francisco Bay-Area Marxist-Maoist collective.
